How “Safe Account” Scams Work

How the Scam Works

1. You are contacted by someone claiming to be from your bank or a trusted organisation.
2. You are told your account has been compromised.
3. You are instructed to move your money to a “safe account.”
4. The account actually belongs to the scammer.

Techniques Used

• Urgent warnings about fraud
• Reassurance that your money is being protected
• Professional and convincing language
• Caller ID spoofing to appear legitimate

Why It Is Effective

The scam plays on fear and trust simultaneously:

• Fear of losing money
• Trust in the organisation contacting you

Important Facts

No legitimate bank will ever:

• Ask you to transfer money to a safe account
• Request full security details
• Pressure you into immediate action

How to Stay Safe

Never move money based on a call or message alone
Always verify independently.

Take control of the situation
End the conversation and contact your bank directly.

A Critical Reminder

If someone asks you to move your money to protect it, it is almost certainly a scam.

Understanding this tactic is key to avoiding significant financial loss.
