The Rise of 'Urgency' in Modern Scams

Why Urgency Works

When people feel rushed, they are more likely to:

• Act without verifying
• Ignore warning signs
• Trust instructions without question

Common Urgent Phrases

• “Immediate action required”
• “Your account will be closed today”
• “Final warning”
• “Suspicious activity detected”

These messages are designed to create panic.

The Key Insight

Legitimate organisations do not rely on panic. They provide clear, calm communication and allow time for decision-making.

A Better Approach

Taking a moment to pause and verify any urgent request can completely remove the scammer’s advantage.

The difference between falling victim and staying safe is often just a few seconds of hesitation.
