Why Scammers Often Imitate Customer Service

Why Customer Service Is Targeted

People expect customer service interactions to:

• Solve problems quickly
• Provide reassurance
• Offer guidance

Scammers mimic these qualities to appear legitimate.

Common Scenarios

• Calls claiming to resolve account issues
• Messages offering help with a problem
• Responses to queries that were never made

Why This Works

People trust helpful behaviour
A polite and supportive tone lowers suspicion.

Problems create vulnerability
When people think something is wrong, they are more likely to accept help.

The Key Insight

Help should not replace verification. Just because someone appears helpful does not mean they are genuine.

A Better Approach

Always confirm who you are dealing with before accepting assistance or following instructions.

Stay Aware

Trust should be earned through verification, not assumed through tone.
