Why Scammers Often Pretend to Be Helpful

Many are built around offering help.

The Strategy Behind “Helpful” Scams

Scammers may:

• Offer assistance with a problem
• Provide guidance or support
• Act as if they are resolving an issue

This approach lowers suspicion and builds trust.

Why This Works

People respond positively to help
A helpful tone feels reassuring.

Problems create vulnerability
If someone believes there is an issue, they are more open to assistance.

Trust builds quickly
Especially if the interaction feels professional.

The Key Insight

Helpfulness can be a tactic. It should not replace verification.

A Better Approach

Focus on:

• What is being asked
• Whether the request makes sense
• Whether it can be verified independently

Stay Objective

Always separate the message from the action you take.
