Why You Should Log Out of Accounts on Shared Devices

Whether it’s a library computer, workplace device or someone else’s phone, failing to log out properly can leave your accounts vulnerable.

The Risk of Staying Logged In

If you remain logged in, the next person using the device may be able to:

• Access your emails
• View personal information
• Make changes to your accounts
• Initiate transactions

Even if the risk seems small, it only takes one oversight for a scammer to gain access.

Common Situations

• Logging into email on a public computer
• Using a shared family device
• Accessing accounts on a friend’s phone
• Saving login details on unfamiliar devices

How to Stay Safe

Always log out after use
Do not rely on closing the browser alone.

Avoid saving passwords on shared devices
Never allow browsers to store your login details.

Use private or incognito mode
This reduces the chance of data being stored.

Clear browsing data if needed
Especially on public or temporary devices.

Stay in Control

A few extra seconds to log out properly can prevent unauthorised access and protect your personal information.
